The Ring Alarm home security system comes equipped with a central base station, keypad, motion sensor, contact sensors, as well as a DIY installation kit. However, to acquire the full experience and get all the devices you need to purchase one of the more advanced kits.
The central base station connects to your home network and keeps your alarm system online. This device serves to manage the connected devices while providing you with visual indicators regarding the alarm and its arm status.
The keypad serves as a physical control panel for the Ring Alarm system. It comes with three main modes including “away”, “home” and “disarmed”. The contact sensors can be installed on any door or window, and trigger the alarm system or send you notifications via the accompanying app when doors and windows are opened or closed.
Like the contact sensors, the motion sensor can detect motion. They will trigger the alarm or send notifications when they pick up movement. The range extender helps extend the signal and operational range of the base station. Ring Protect offers 24/7 monitoring included in the Ring Protect Plus package. Unfortunately, this service does not come standard with the Ring Alarm system and requires an additional monthly fee to receive the full benefits of the external 24/7 professional monitoring services.
Once subscribed to, you will receive unlimited video recording and cellular backup. These additional services are only accessible once subscribed to the monthly 24/7 monitoring package though, making these features somewhat exclusive.

Since Ring products are all compatible with self-monitoring, the only cost to consumers is their initial disbursement for the purchase of their equipment.
The main focus of Ring Protect is placed on their Ring Alarm DIY devices that enable you to self-monitor and control your home security devices. This alarm system can be purchased in three main packages offering various enhancements and additional devices.
5-piece: The 5-piece Ring Alarm package serves as the entry level for consumers. This package includes the base station, contact sensor, motion detector, keypad, and range extender. This package can be purchased for $199 making it the cheapest available option.
10-piece: At $259 the 10-piece package includes all the devices available in the 5-piece package but with the added benefit of additional devices for medium sized homes. These additional devices include 4 additional contact sensors and 1 additional motion sensor.
14-piece: The 14-piece package is the most comprehensive option available. At $329 this package provides many additional devices in addition to the basic 5-piece package. These additional devices include 1 extra keypad, 7 additional contact sensors, and 1 added motion sensor. On the costlier side of things, this package is most suitable for larger homes with many doors and windows.

Ring Protect seeks to fully integrate their Ring Alarm devices and systems with online and mobile technology to ensure that you are fully connected to your home’s security system. These devices are integrated into the accompanying app to allow you to interact with the various devices remotely from your smartphone or other compatible devices.
However, the Ring Alarm systems have noticeably limited capabilities to integrate with many of the additional devices outside of their base package such as doorbells, cameras, lights etc. This is somewhat disappointing as you are unable to fully integrate other home security devices into one hub with the Ring Alarm system.
Ring Protect generally receives mixed customer reviews and offers 24/7 customer service. They have received generally high customer ratings with an overall good company reputation. Despite their overall positive reputation, Ring Protect has received criticism regarding their transparency and monitoring practices though. Most recently the investigation of their hacked doorbell and cameras has caused concern and lowered their rating.
Not much is known regarding who the security professionals are that monitor the Ring Alarm systems. Unlike other security services such as SimpliSafe and Nest, Ring Protect has much less transparency and information available to the public regarding their monitoring policies and personnel.
